Moving Day

Posted on September 29, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

My only friend in Austin with a baby close in age to Matthew packed up and left Austin today. Anya, Drew and Elise are moving to Georgia.

I met Anya when I started working at San Juan Diego. We were pregnant at the same time, experiencing the newness of our first pregnancies together, and always asking each other questions about pregnancy, motherhood and babies. Matthew was born in March and Elise arrived a few months later, in July. We had play dates together and saw our babies grow from infants into toddlers, when they could actually play and interact with each other.

While it’s really sad and disappointing to have a friend like Anya move away, I know it’s for their best. Unlike Ben and me, Anya and Drew don’t have any family in Austin. Ben and I have been completely spoiled by the fact that we have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and cousins who live in and around Austin. We are so lucky! I don’t know what we would do without all their support, especially the support of Ben’s parents. They have been incredible; I couldn’t ask for better in-laws.

Elise was colicky when she was born, developed a flat head, and refused to take a bottle. Anya was so strong, getting through all of that without any family in town. I don’t think I could have done it. It’ll be great for her, Drew and Elise to be close to family and to have a support system like we have here. I wish them all the best and hope they settle into their new lives quickly.

Desiree,

I am so sorry it has taken me this long to read this. Your kind words mean SO much to me. You are such an AMAZING mother, friend, and person. I don’t know what I would have done without your support and guidance. Our play dates truly helped me through a difficult time in my life. I miss watching Elise and Matthew play and grow together. Hopefully we will be able to visit soon. Please wish Matthew a Happy B-day from his first girl Elise!!

Love,
Anya
